Professor E.A. Thoroh De Souza earned his bachelor's degree from the University of São Paulo (USP) in 1986 and his Ph.D. in Science from the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in 1992. From 1992 to 1995, he conducted postdoctoral research at AT&T Bell Labs' Advanced Engineering Department, working on projects such as "High-Speed Optical Soliton Switching," "Optoelectronic Quantum Well Devices and Optical Image Processing," and "Femtosecond Wavelength Division Multiplexing." In 1996, he joined the University of Brasília as a Professor of Physics, where he established a research group in photonics. In 2003, he became a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at Mackenzie University, focusing primarily on graphene photonics and ultrafast light sources for optical communications.
