Andre Geim: Royal Society Research Professor ofPhysics at the University of Manchester, UK, and Director of the ManchesterCentre for Mesoscience and Nanotechnology. He obtained his Ph.D. in 1987 fromthe Institute of Solid State Physics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Aftergraduating and working there for three years, he continued his research at theUniversity of Nottingham in the UK and Denmark. In 1994, he became an associateprofessor at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands, and in 2001, hejoined the University of Manchester as a professor of physics.
Throughout his scientific career, Professor Geim has published over 200high-impact papers, including more than 20 in Science and Nature. Among hispublished works, over 20 papers have been cited more than 100 times, 15 papershave been cited more than 1,000 times, and two papers have been cited more than10,000 times.
So far, Geim's outstanding research has earned him numerous awards,including the Mott Prize in 2007, the EuroPhysics Prize in 2008, the KörberPrize in 2009, and the John Carty Award from the National Academy of Sciencesin 2010. On October 5, 2010, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announcedthat the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2010 was awarded to Andre Geim andKonstantin Novoselov in recognition of their groundbreaking work on graphene.In addition, he received the Niels Bohr Medal in 2011 and the Copley Medal in2013.
