Prof. Dr. Jian-Bin Xu is Professor of Department ofElectronic Engineering, Director of Materials Science and Technology ResearchCenter at The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), and is aVice-Chancellor’s Outstanding Fellow of the Faculty of Engineering and ChangJiang Scholar Chair Professor by Ministry of Education of China.
Prof. Dr. Xu received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from Nanjing University in 1983 and 1986, in Physics and Information Physics,respectively. Since 1988, he was privileged to study at the University of Konstanz, particularly under the supervision of Prof. Klaus Dransfeld. His doctoral dissertation was focused on the near-field sensing and nanoscopic energy transfer and heat transport associated with electronic processes. He earned his doctorate in 1993. Afterwards, he joined the Department of Electronic Engineering, CUHK. He has been Professor in the department since the midst of 2002.
Prof. Dr. Xu has published extensively on advancedelectronic/photonic materials and devices as well as on nanotechnology inpeer-reviewed professional journals (> 350) and conferences (> 60), deliveredmore than 200 presentations, and secured numerous competitive research grants.Also he actively participates in a myriad of professional activities. He isFellow of IEEE and Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, the Secretary of HongKong Materials Research Society, Council Member of Chinese Vacuum Society, andMember of American Physical Society and Materials Research Society, etc. Since2007, he has been Director of Materials Science and Technology Research Centerat CUHK. He is a recipient of Research Excellence Award by CUHK; and ThousandTalents Plan by Chinese Government. Since 2018, he is Associate Editor of Science Bulletin, a major journal onmulti-disciplinary sciences in China.
Prof. Dr. Xu’sresearch interests currently include two-dimensional layered materials anddevices; hybrid perovskite materials and optoelectronic devices; organicsemiconductors; functional oxide materials; high thermal-conductive materials.
