Dong Zhang is a professor and deputy director of Institute of Ecological Materials, School of Materials Science and Engineering, Key Laboratory of Advanced Civil Engineering Materials of Ministry of Education, Tongji University. He received BS and Ph.D. degrees from Tongji University in 1991 and 1997. During 1999-2001, he worked as Postdoc at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He worked as visiting scholar in Stuttgart University (Germany).
His research interests include Ecological building materials, Graphene and its application in green building material, Nanocapsules and emulsions and their applications in green building material, Thermal energy storage materials and their applications in green building, Smart materials for civil engineering. He has 41 Chinese patents, 23 of them have got licenses. He has carried out 14 projects, including Chinese High Technology Research and development program (863 Program) and Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC), and published more than 120 papers in academic journals and conferences, including J. Materials in Civil Engineering (ASCE), J. American Ceramic Society, Cement and Concrete Research, Materials and Structures, Cement and Concrete Composites, Concrete Science and Engineering, Solar Energy, J. Nanoscience and Nanotechnology,Experimental Thermal and Fluid Science, Polymer bulletin, International Conference of Fracture Mechanics of Concrete Structures, Inernational Conference on Phase Change materials and Slurries, International Conference on Thermal Energy Storage.
He received Excellent Young Teacher Prize of Universities in Shanghai, Science and Technology Star Prize in Shanghai in 2003, Excellent Young Teacher Prize of Tongji University in 2003, New Century Excellent Talent Prize of Ministry of Education of China in 2007, Talent Development Program Prize of Shanghai in 2008.
