Abstract
Graphene oxide (GO), which has been known for 150 years, is a two dimensional soft material, which could be precursor for solution process to produce graphene / reduction graphene oxide. Nowadays, due to the size-dependent amphiphilicity, abundant functional groups on the GO and the π-conjugation retained on the basal plane of GO, various of possibility of modification can be conducted on GO with nano dimensional properties. Nano graphene oxide (NGO) has attracted more and more attention, which could be used in photoelectric applications, biological applications, drug delivery systems, and carbon quantum dots, composites and other wide range prospects.
A novel process will be introduced combining with motified Hummers method and a series of postprocessing and separation to prepare NGO utilizing common raw materials, graphite powder (~5μm), instead of nano graphite powder and graphite fiber. The size of the obtained NGO was controlled and well-distributed. Furthermore, the cost could be reduced for the difference of utilized raw materials, and the yield could be elevated uttermost by using the unqualified GO which could be separated for retreating. Some novel functional groups with different properties were controlled chemically grafted onto NGO to modify the dispersion ability and reaction activity for further applications.
