associate professor


Fanxing Bu is currently an associate professorof the School of Cultural Heritage and Information Management at ShanghaiUniversity (China). He received his BS from the WuhanUniversity of Technology in 2011 and his PhD from the East China NormalUniversity in 2016. He then worked as a postdoctoral fellow at the Fudan Universityin Yuxi Xu group and Dongyuan Zhao group. His research interests include tailoreddesign of mesoporous MOF, COF, graphene and MXenes for energy conversion and storage.He has published over 40 scientific papers in journals including J. Am. Chem.Soc., Adv. Funct. Mater., Nano Today, ACS Nano, Chem. Sci. and J. Mater. Chem.A with total citations >2,000 times.

Two-dimensional materials such as graphene andMXene hold great potential for energy storage due to their high electricalconductivity and abundant redox active sites. Mesoporous engineering can tailortheir nanostructures and electronic structures at the macro and micro levels,generate unique pore chemistry, and then regulate the electrochemical processto greatly improve their performance. In this talk, I will present our recentworks on the tailored designof mesoporous graphene and mesoporous MXene with unique pore chemistry for energy storage applications. Several scenarios will becovered: Porous graphene with enhanced electron and ion transport and activesite accessibility for dense and thick electrodes with ultrahigh gravimetric,areal, and volumetric capacities. Mesoporous MXene with newly discovered edge effectthat can dissolve zinc dendrites rather than homogenize zinc deposition forlong life Zn-ion battery at a practical current density, albeit with inevitabledendrite formation. We believe that mesopore engineering of two-dimensionalmaterials could foster the exploitation of more unexcepted pore chemistries andthe progress of energy storage applications.
