Jinying Zhang, received her Master degree from Tsinghua University and PhD from Oxford University. She was working as a postdoctoral fellow from 2009 to 2012 in Nogoya University, Japan. Since 2013, she works as a PI in Xi’an Jiaotong Unviersity. Her main research interests are solid state hydrogen storage materials, the synthesis and properties violet phosphorus and phosphorene.

Abstract



Hydrogen energy is important to achieve the national goal of carbon neutral. Hydrogen storage technology is crucial for the development of hydrogen energy. Solid state hydrogen storage technology has advantages of high hydrogen storage density, high safety, and long-term storage and transportation.
Highly active light metal hydrides were adopted as hydrogen storage materials, where graphene was introduced to coat parallelly on the surface of hydride crystals to adjust their hydrolysis kinetics. The hydrogen release rate of the hydrogen storage material is controlled by the distance between graphene, where the mass transfer process between the hydrides and water is tuned. The hydrogen will be released completely due to the ultra-high activity hydrides. A serial of hydrogen batteries based on solid-state hydrogen storage materials have been developed and adopted in sightseeing bus. Different scale of production lines has been built and tested.
Similar to carbon allotropes, phosphorus also has abundant allotropes and structures similar to graphene. The research group has produced a new type of phosphorus allotropes, violet phosphorus and phosphorene. High-quality violet phosphorus single crystals with macroscopic sizes have been produced. The corresponding crystal structure was determined by single crystal XRD. The yield has been obtained to be more than 80%. The violet phosphorus and phosphorene have been demonstrated to have excellent properties in the fields of optics, photo-electronics, photocatalysts, and biomedical science.
